The biggest underground carpark in South Australia will open to the public this week beneath Adelaide’s new Festival Plaza.
Walker Corporation Chief Executive Officer David Gallant said the 5 level, fully underground carpark, has over 1500 spaces to accommodate 24 hour parking in the heart of the Riverbank precinct.
“This new carpark will bring convenience right into the heart of Adelaide’s amazing new Riverbank precinct where South Australians will come to work, rest and play,” Mr Gallant said.
“Logistically this carpark is perfectly positioned for people to secure their vehicle while coming into the CBD to watch some live sport, catch a show, enjoy a bite to eat at the Casino or all-day parking while attending their office.”
“More than 1500 spaces are spread over 60,000 square metres, the equivalent of 10 football pitches.”
“Everything is underground, leaving all the area above ground for a beautifully designed plaza for Adelaideans to soak in the sunshine by the Riverbank.”
Walker’s expertise in placemaking is guiding the Festival Plaza development with the company committing $450 million to the project on top of the state government’s $213 million which is being enhanced by the $330 million private investment by SkyCity into their expanded integrated casino resort.
SkyCity Australia’s Chief Operating Officer, David Christian, said the carpark will enhance the customer experience at South Australia’s largest entertainment precinct.
“SkyCity is thrilled to have secured 750 of the Walker Corporation car parks, in what will be the final piece of the puzzle in the SkyCity Adelaide expansion,” Mr Christian said.
“These car parks are on the doorstep of the reinvigorated Riverbank precinct, allowing our customers to safely and conveniently park right next door to our stunning new property.”
Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director Douglas Gautier AM said the new carpark will perfectly complement upgrades to Adelaide Festival Centre.
